Temperatures are finally dropping, and believe it or not, fall is right around the corner. Now is the time to start thinking about lawn renovation and seasonal landscaping … wait too much longer, and it will be too late!
For fall landscaping projects, timing is everything. Planting now through September will give trees, shrubs, flowers and grass seed enough time to establish strong root systems that will help sustain them through the winter months, and continue thriving into the next growing season.
- Now is the perfect time to plant perennials so that your gardens will bloom next spring! They are easy to plant and maintain, and with just a little TLC, will provide colorful blooms throughout the fall, spring, and summer.
- Mums are always a popular choice this time of year. They are very easy to grow and are perfect for both flowerbeds and patio containers. Even better, they’re drought-resistant and don’t tend to suffer from disease or insect infestations. And because they come in all shapes, colors, and sizes, we think they’re the perfect choice for any fall landscaping project.
- If you’re looking for larger plants that are more durable or offer a little more privacy, ornamental grasses are a great option. They require minimal maintenance and come in a wide variety of shapes, colors, and textures. Grasses add interest to fall and winter gardens by providing some additional height to your landscape.
- And of course, the fall is always a great time of year to plant trees and shrubs. Just like perennials, the root systems will need some time to establish themselves, so don’t wait too long … and don’t forget to water new plants regularly throughout the season!
